学姐分享 | 喝杯咖啡也可以拿到实习？揭开Coffee chat的神秘面纱

在加拿大有过找实习经历的小伙伴应该都听说过 Coffee chat ~

学姐来加拿大之后就常听前辈说起要利用空闲时间多约 Coffee chat，

有的时候，实习的机会可能真的会从几杯咖啡中“喝” 出来~

Coffee chat 顾名思义就是一边喝咖啡一边聊天~

但是Coffee chat 约出来不会是闲聊，

而是有准备去开启一些和职场相关的话题，向行业的精英取经，

同时也是从商务的层面上认识和了解双方的一个机会。

不少小伙伴们第一次在加拿大找实习，

可能对加拿大的行业，经济和职场的环境不够了解。

这时候，

可以通过在Linkedin领英上去邀请在自己感兴趣的公司和行业就业的商务人士约 Coffee chat,

如果对方接受你的邀请，就可以约到对方上班附近的星巴克聊一聊~

所以 Coffee chat 的重点不是喝咖啡，

不管是喝卡布奇诺还是美式，

聊天的方式和质量才是最重要的~~

对于国际学生来说，

约Coffee chat 最好的“切入点“就是自己的校友.

通常学校都会定期组织一些校友的Career Insight 的分享活动，

可以在活动结束后加上校友的 LinkedIn，

简单介绍自己，就可以邀请校友在下班的时间聊一聊~

加拿大的几大医博类大学校友的资源都非常强大~

校友们也都是在工作之余义务地参加学校的活动，

“无偿”地帮助后浪们~

他们一般都比较友善，很热心，

邀请他们 Coffee chat 的成功率也会比较高~

就不怕不知道怎么“优雅” 邀请校友来 Coffee chat 啦~！

I’m a first/second year student at XXX with a very strong interest in Labatt.

I located your profile on LinkedIn and see that you have been at ____( Alumni’s current company) many years and are also a XXX Alumni.

Prior to starting my XXX , I worked in a sales function for three years in close coordination with the marketing team. I am eager to learn about brand marketing at Labatt and would enjoy hearing about your experience there and learn more about XXXX’s approach to brand management (or marketing) and its overall culture.

I would really appreciate the opportunity to connect with you for 20 minutes. Might I be able to buy you a cup of coffee sometime in the next 2 to 3 weeks? I would be happy to meet you at a location and time most convenient to you.

现在疫情期间，

其实反而给约Coffee chat 提供了更高的灵活性，

完全不受地理区域的限制了。

在安省也可以约到在 BC 省的校友，

只要大家有时间，Set up a zoom meeting 就好啦~

其实约到一个Coffee chat 只是一个开始，

开始 Chat 的时候也是有小的策略可寻哒~

一般大家默认的 Coffee chat 都是半小时结束“战斗” ，

如果你滔滔不绝把自己的“优秀事迹“从小学讲到大学毕业，

可能你会在某个时刻发现你的校友已经下线…

所以在开始 Chat 之前其实需要给自己的一个规划，

想好该怎么开始，怎么承接，怎么结束~

（锻炼英文组织能力的时候到啦）

如果提前没有想好怎么组织语言，

很容易出现 冷场的场面，毕竟大家并不熟~

如果气氛一旦冷下来，可能真的会“结冰“哦... ...

帮助你在冷场的边缘一秒回暖~~

ü 开始这段对话：

I appreciate your time today and I’ll make sure we stick to the [amount of time] we set aside for our conversation.

May I give you a quick overview of work experience and current interests?”

刚开始见面基本就是寒暄和介绍一下自己，

同时把话题抛给对方，让校友给你讲讲他的职场经历

ü 介绍自己的背景，自己的技能，自己感兴趣的方向

• What I offer, what I’m good at, what excites me

• A brief background (currently in the x year of the XXX program at XXX, with an undergraduate degree in ……. Before XXX worked at …… and ……. Where I ….

• Where I’d like to go (given my interest in…..I’m looking for a role in…….where I can add value by …….. I’d also like to learn more about………and use/leverage my strengths in …….

• I’m speaking to industry experts in this information-gathering stage of my search

后续就可以更多地和校友交流自己职业的方向，

自己的专业特长和日后想发展的方向，

同时可以问问校友可以给你提供什么样的建议~

ü 结束这段对话

• Thank you, _______. I really appreciate your time and what you’ve told me about ___________. You have been very helpful and it’s been great to meet/speak with you.

• May I stay in touch? I’d like to let you know how my search is progressing and where I land.”

• Ask them for a business card if they didn‘t give you one, and offer one of yours

看时间差不多就可以接受这段对话啦，

半个小时其实很快，

结束的时候再次表示感谢。

疫情恢复后，

In-Person 的 Coffee chat 可以要一个名片，

自己如果有准备名片，就可以互相交换，结束这次的 Chat 啦

好啦，”神秘” 的 Coffee chat 就这样被揭开啦！
